Here at Chrome, we’re consistently growing as one of the leading business telecommunication providers within the UK SME Market. As well as building our customer base and brand through organic growth, in 2021 we have also been expanding our brilliant team, recently welcoming a new Marketing Executive and two new Business Development Managers to our family.

Employees at Chrome Telecom are supported and encouraged to develop, not just in their roles within the company but equally in achieving their personal goals outside of the office.

As we’re currently recruiting for new vacancies within our sales team, we thought it would be the perfect time to catch up with one of our Business Development Managers, Lloyd Maxwell, on his career journey so far here at Chrome.

Lloyd has been part of the team for over five years and has progressed from his first position in market research, through to his current position as Sales Manager. Lloyd is an expert in the services that we provide and is experienced in matching our customers with the right solutions for their business, so far he has introduced over 350 new customers to Chrome.

When catching up with Lloyd, we asked him these important questions.

How would you describe your job as Sales Manager?

My job involves managing our team of Telemarketing Executives and Field Sales Executives, ensuring that the team are performing to the best of their ability and that they have the tools and resources needed.

When we welcome new members to the team, they are trained by me, and as we actively support progression within the company, further training and support is regularly given. I’m also responsible for ensuring that the team reflect our company values, and that all admin work relating to sales is completed correctly.

How did you progress to your current position within the company?

When I joined Chrome, I started as a Market Researcher/Trainee Telemarketing Executive which involved making outbound calls to business owners. Upon completion of my training and having successfully passed a probation period, I was then promoted to a Telemarketing Executive.

After a few months in this role, I was further promoted to Telemarketing Team Leader to lead a small team, ensuring that they were motivated, inspired and well informed on our products and services. I assisted with their training and offered advice on sales techniques, answering any questions that they may have on our products and customers.

Having successfully managed a small team, I was further promoted to position of Telemarketing Manager. I was responsible for all of Chrome’s Telemarketers, assisting them with training and development and managing the confirmation of appointments with new customers to ensure that meetings were organised successfully.

After this, I was promoted to being a Business Development Manager where I would attend appointments with perspective customers to introduce them to our products and services. I also made sure that existing customers were given upgrade opportunities, and that they were informed on our latest products and services.

Always keen for a new challenge, I’ve since progressed further to Sales Manager. I believe I’ve achieved this by working hard, believing in the importance of strong leadership and being motivated by seeing the business grow.

My career at Chrome has been challenging, but Chrome has supported me every step of the way. I have a really strong working relationship with, and belief in, Chrome’s Managing Director Daniel Woodham. Daniel been a really big part of my progression, he’s always incentivised and supported me to perform to the best of my ability.

I’ve always dedicated time to my own personal development, setting myself good stretch targets to aim for. I’ve enjoyed researching new working practices and sales techniques to make sure I can fully reach my potential.

What is your favourite part about working for Chrome?

It would be impossible to pick just one favourite part about working for Chrome, but the office culture would be up there for me.

I also love that it is a family founded business, and as we have grown we have never lost our values. At Chrome we deliver a high level of service and solutions and have an honest approach to sales.

The support given to me by management throughout my journey at Chrome has been outstanding, management are approachable and reliable and genuinely want their team to succeed.

One example of the level of support given to me at Chrome is on my first day on the road to meet a potential new customer one of my tyres burst at 6.30am. Our Managing Director Daniel drove straight to my car and changed the tyre so that I could attend the meeting on time.

Over the past five years my confidence has massively improved, I am now confident in my work and in my capabilities to create relationships with new customers and train new members of staff to promote further business growth.

What advice would you give to those interested in beginning a career in telemarketing and sales?

I would advise to give it a chance and persevere because the rewards are very much worth the hard work needed to succeed. I would also advise to invest time into learning and developing your techniques and knowledge as it will be a valuable part of your career development.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone interested in joining Chrome Telecom, what would it be?
